What the SAT Test Is, And How Best To Prepare For It

Every year The SAT test is the benchmark test used by thousands of potential American College students. The SAT test is administered by the college board, who claim that it is the best indication possible as to whether or not a student is ready to enter college. The test was introduced over a century ago, and since that time it has gone through many different names and formats. The current name, SAT Reasoning Test, was introduced in 2005, along with a new system of scoring. The SAT Test College Board charge $45 for the test, which is administered by the Educational Testing Service.

The duration of the SAT test exam lasts for three hours and forty-five minutes, and is divided into three sections. These sections are math, critical reading and writing, and each is given a score of 800 points. The College Board is adamant that College SAT testing is essential to determine whether a student is ready to enter college, because they claim that without the necessary numeracy and literacy skills, the student will gain no benefit from the college courses themselves.

“What is the SAT test?” is a question that students all over America will ask during their studies. As soon as a potential college student awakens to the possibility of being accepted into college, they will want to do everything they can to prepare themselves for this necessary entrance exam. Preparation has become big business, and many of the world's largest publishing houses have published extensive preparation tools to both assess a student's current ability, and to improve their skills in the critical areas.

SAT testing is so crucial in the life and potential career of any potential student whose families are prepared to spend substantial amounts of money on giving their young student the best possible chance. Organizations have recently begun to offer board games which can enhance a student's ability, on top of the more traditional tools which have always been available. There are many who have criticized the format of the SAT test, claiming that this ability to prepare is actually contrary to the very purpose of the test, but it has many supporters as well.

There have been many boisterous opponents even within the college education system itself. The opinions of these opponents have carried enough weight to force a restructuring of the exam in this decade, although it still remains the standard by which students are judged. Much of the criticism centered around the fact that only students from privileged backgrounds would have some of the basic knowledge required to answer certain questions. This criticism of bias has been accepted as justified, and the test amended accordingly. There is now a more level playing field amongst students who attempt to enter college by use of the SAT test.
