How To Obtain The Right SAT Test Information From The American College Board
SAT test information is readily obtained from the College Board, whose function it is to administer the test across the country. The College Board has every incentive to give you as much information as possible, to help you successfully complete the test, and give you every chance to become another successful and happy college student. The College Board is adamant that the SAT test represents the truest test available as to a student's likely chances of succeeding in college. With the constant refining which has taken place over many decades, this would seem to be more true than ever.
SAT test information will reveal that the test is divided into three distinct sections, and lasts for three hours and forty-five minutes overall. The College Board believes that the essential skills any potential college student will need are mathematics, writing, and critical reading. The SAT test is therefore divided into these three sections, with equal marks awarded for each. There is a total of 800 marks available for each section of the test. This gives the sections equal weighting, even though the methods of calculating the scores may be quite different.
These differences can be highly significant, and in some cases it can even lead to a student being totally dissatisfied with the marking, and believing that they have been marked down due to cultural bias. Bias has been a big problem in the past, as many of the questions were more readily answered by someone with a traditional American background than someone from an ethnic minority background. The face that the ethnic person had less exposure to the subjects in daily life was no reflection of their ability, so the bias had to be overcome.
Now, the marking system is regarded as fair by the vast majority of colleges. Although the bias has been largely eradicated, there are always going to be people who will think themselves hard done by when they get low marks in a test where the marking has to be given subjectively. This will never happen in mathematics, as it is a simple matter. Either the answer is right, or the answer is wrong. However, in writing and critical reading, there is no such objective standard by which to judge anyone's work.
The College Board has done everything it can to overcome this, by having more than one judge mark the paper. Nevertheless, in any case where style and individual preferences can affect the outcome, there can be no absolute guarantees. What is for certain is that the modern SAT test is far more accurate than its predecessors, and that can only be good news. If you wish to apply to join the college system, and you want to give yourself the highest probability of success, get on the Internet and do a comprehensive search for SAT test information.
